THANKSGIVING
When you're on exchange you experience thing for the first and last time. One of these is the local festivity and in particular the most famous American Holiday ever. Yes, I'm talking about Thanksgiving.
I experience my first thanksgiving ever and I can say that the thing I was most excited for was -of course- the turkey! And no body can blame me because e the very first thing you think when you talk about Thanksgiving is the turkey dinner. That's the reason why lots of my friends and relatives from Italy ask me a picture of a turkey.
I had three (THREE) turkey dinner during the day! But let's start telling you the story from the very beginning.
We star our day delivering turkey dinner in the morning. Me, Liza, Jared, Vee, Kiley, Heather and Greg went to Esky school to take this meal and after that we drive around searching for the right address to deliver meal for. It was super funny because the people I was with were super funny. We were eight on a single car and we knocked from door to door screaming "Happy
Thanksgiving" on elder or alone people who doesn't have anybody that can cook dinner for them.
One of the funniest moment ever was when Heather screamed "Marry Christmas!" when obviously it wasn't Christmas yet. But when we made her noticed that she goes: "yes, but it's right after Thanksgiving, so who cares!". Or, another funny memory is when Kylie was standing outside a door waiting for someone who will open it. She was saying what she was planned to say when the they will open the door. She just said "When they'll open the door..." when the door actually opens. So she turned all surprised and give the meal to the men who was standing there watching us and probably thinking "what are they talking about?" .
After that, Vee and I went to Vee's Grandma house. she bring me with her to don't be alone visiting her dad and her dad's family. We stayed there for an hour and a half. I met her grandma for the first time and talk with some of her cousin who came from Wisconsin. I did't eat anything there even if Vee's Grandma kept on asking me if I would have something to eat. after we leaved from there we drove quietly to Grandma Bath house, which is near our house in Cornell, where Liza and the rest of my family was waiting for us.
At Grandma's there were all Jerry's sisters and their family. It wasn't the first time I had met them. I love Jerry's mom and his sisters because they're always so nice with me and they like to talk a lot! So they're the perfect company for a Turkey dinner! I eat turkey and vegetables, with mashed potatoes and the normal kind of food Americans cook when they're all together and there's lot of people eating at the same time. As dessert I ate a huge slice of blueberry pie with ice cream which is definetly my favorite. I probably gained 10 pounds just because of that pie.
Before leaving, Jerry's sister take pictures of me and my whole host family for Christmas card. She was a photographer and she was the same woman who took my Senior pictures which turns out to be very good!
At grandma's we didn't have a true dinner. There was food on the kitchen table so everyone can walk with a dish and bring the food the he most likes , whenever he wanted. It was more similar to a banquette. I had my true Turkey dinner at Heather's house.
We set all together at the same table and we had our third dinner! We skipped the prayers before starting to eat because nobody was very good at saying that! We tried, but we failed!
It was super fun experiencing a true American Thanksgiving and eat a true turkey for the very first time (I asked Heather the day before to sent me a picture of the turkey before cutting it, the day next she sent me another picture of a turkey saying that our didn't look very good and healthy so I should have sent this picture back to my Italian friends because that turkey was definetly better than our!). So far, I can say Thanksgiving is very similar to Christmas. The funnest part of it is
Black Friday shopping!
BLACK FRIDAY SHOPPING
It's called like that but it actually started the evening of the day before (which is Thanksgiving day).
After having dinner, Kylie and I went to Walmart and to JCPenny. There wasn't as many people a we expected but that was probably because it was almost 8 pm and the very big sales and discount started at 5pm. So most of the thing were already done. I met lots of people who go to school with me at Walmart. We didn't buy anything important but that's only because we were saving our money for the weekend. In fact, Liza, Vee, Heather, Kylie and me left on Friday afternoon and we went to Appleton, which is about three hour driving, to have a crazy weekend shopping.
I've never bought so many stuff in one day. When you're on exchange for one year and you left your home country with only one suitcase you realize how many clothes you need to go through the winter. Every time I was looking around in a shop I was: "oh, I don't have any of these, I need these and I need this too". So I bought a lots of stuff and I was scared to checked my card credit. But I can say I didn't spend so much money for the stuff I bought and that they were all absolutely necessary. So I don't feel very guilty.
I'm not the only one who bought lots of stuff. My shopping mates did the same. At the ends it turns out we had to put some of our shop bas under our feet on the way back home because the car was too full of stuff. We had to pay attention when we open the back of the car because everything starts fall down. We were so funny and proud for the stuff we bought!
Heather bought a Santa Clause portrait for her house. I will post the video how she get it because it is the funniest thing ever!
We stayed there two night and we had so much fun together! That's probably the best thing about Thanksgiving Break!
