Dear Host-family,
I’m Sara, I’m 15 and I can’t wait to leave for my desired year abroad. I live in a small town near Milano, called Cogliate. I like where I live on the whole: it’ surrounded by countryside and by woods, so it’s really quite; despite this reach Milan, or other cities like Monza or Como, is very fast. This is definitely a positive thing because I must admit there isn’t much to do here. In my free time, my friends and I usually meet in the center to have an ice cream or for chatting, but if we want to do something more exciting, like going to the cinema or going shopping, we need to move in the neighboring towns.  Milan is famous to be “The city of fashion”, in fact I love going shopping there with my friends during the weekend.
I attend the Scientific High School in Saronno and my favorite subjects are Science, Maths, and of course, English. Every morning I get to school by bus or, during the hottest month, by my beautiful and loved scooter. I admit I’m not a pilot (I must say that after my little accident done last year; nothing serious, don’t worry!) but I love drive it: I feel free and independent, I can get around alone without asking for a lift.
I haven’t had a clear idea about what I’ll do in my future yet. My ideas are very confused: sometimes I’d like to study medicine after graduation (in fact I’d like to attend anatomy class in my future American High School), other times I’d like to study languages and others I really don’t know what I’ll do. Strangely I’m quite good at school and I like studying unlike most of my mates. I really don’t think I’m more intelligent than others (quite the opposite!); I just think to be more determined and constant: these are the only reasons why my marks are quite good.
I love children, especially the little ones. In fact in the youth center of my town, during the summer, when the school ends, the priest organizes a summer camp where the older boys organize games and other activities for children and take care of them.                                                             I love dance: I’ve got dance class twice a week. I fell free, thoughtless and relaxed when I dance. I’m not very athletics and this is the only sport I practice apart from gym and swim at school. But this doesn’t mean I’m lazy! I’m very active: stay at home doing nothing boring me terribly. So, during my free time, I watch some films (sometimes I try to watch it in English but I can’t understand every worlds; I hope I’ll improve this), read some books (my favorite writer is J. K. Rowling) and sometimes I draw, although I’m not very good at it!
One of the most beautiful experience I’ve had in my whole life was diving in the Red Sea where my parents and I spent our holidays two years ago. I have a great passion for diving since that moment and I hope to do it again as soon as possible!
What about my family?
My father’s name is Rodolfo, he’s got 51 years old and he works in his factory which produces objects in plastic; my mother’s name is Antonella, she’s got 53 years old and she works as a employee in a insurance broker. They’re really different from each other: my dad is more permissive while my mum is really anxious (as every good Italian mum) and protective; but she’s a person with I can talk about everything. I must say a very big “Thanks” to them to let me live this experience! I’m an only child but I’ve wished to have a brother or a sister since I was a child. So I have a dog, Pepe. I had fought against my parents for many years before get it: I love my dog and every different species of animal.
I think I’m a friendly girl but sometimes, above all in new situation, I’m a little shy. I hate being at the center of attention. I’m also very determined and ambitious (I never give up, especially for something that I really care). Another aspect of my personality is that I get really serious and quiet when I'm in important situations, but then I can be also very talkative and friendly when I'm with friends in informal occasions.
I don't like to cause problems to the others, so I’m really calm and obedient. I like being independent, realistic and I always try to see the positive side. Although I’m an only child, I’m not flawed: I adapt myself to any situation. Maybe the adjective that defines me better is sensitive to cold: usually my friends and my parents make fun of me because I wear warm clothes also when they say it’s not necessary. Sometimes my mother to joke say that “I’m without blood”!
Last but not least, I love traveling and discovering new places and realities that are totally different from the ones I'm in everyday. I can’t find a place where I wouldn’t go. I like changing my habits and getting used to other cultures so that I can have new experiences and meet new people.
I think there is always something to learn from the others, so, after this travel, I know I will be very richer and I’ll have something that anyone has.
The reason why I want to live this experience, that will be unforgettable and unique, are: improve my English (of course!), but also meet new people, identify myself in new tradition and in a new way to live: to become a very American girl! To live and take part of all the traditional American High School parties, to celebrate the Thanksgiving, to go to school by traditional yellow bus, to have a personal locker at school, to study subjects I love more, to watch and cheer on the football\ hockey\ basket\ baseball or every other spots school team, to live the school spirit, to say “trick or treat” during Halloween, to pass Christmas and spring holiday with my host family and the New Year’s Eve with my new friends, to test myself, to improve myself, to grow and learn, to realize one of my dreams.
I’m sure this year will be one of the best of my life (as I say lots of times in this letter) and I can’t wait to live it.
See you soon,

Sara
